Where is the Open Source Mapilio Android App hosted?

Hello, everybody.

People in the Kartaview community are interested in contributing to Mapilio. Unfortunately, they can’t find the open source code repository for the Android app. Please could you publish this, to encourage users to contribute to this project.

Many thanks,

Dear Chris,

Our mobile applications are not currently open source. However, we do have certain libraries available as open source on GitHub. We intend to release additional libraries in due course as we are still in the beta phase and are currently testing our functionalities.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

I’ll let potential contributors know, but I suspect this may prevent people from capturing imagery and submitting it. I mistakenly thought that the app had been built on top of the open source Mapillary code.

Thanks, again.

Chris.

Thanks, I’ve shared the update with some of the community:

This is not really an argument for not making the application open source, this kind of talk usually comes from companies that don’t understand the point of being open source and just don’t want to be.

Can you be more specific in your answer? Will Mapilio and its applications, whether web, mobile, desktop or other, be open-source? If so, when do you plan to make it?

The “Mapilio Uploader for Desktop” source is linked to https://github.com/mapilio/mapilio-kit on Mapilio | Uploader, but it’s not found on GitHub :slightly_frowning_face:

Yep, and I would like to upload GoPro photo tracks and I can’t… Why does Mapilio provide a community Forum if they don’t answer to anything xd?

Hi Retiolus,

Thank you for your message and your interest in Mapilio’s applications.

At this time, we do not have any immediate plans to make our applications open-source. We understand the benefits of open-source software, and we appreciate the feedback from our community. However, we believe that keeping our software proprietary allows us to maintain a level of control over our development process and ensure the quality of our products.

That being said, we are committed to providing our users with the best possible experience and value. We’re constantly working to improve our applications and add new features, and we’re always happy to hear feedback and suggestions from our community.

Thank you for your understanding, and please feel free to reach out to us if you have any further questions or feedback.

Best regards,

We apologize for any confusion caused by the outdated link and we will update the link on our website accordingly.

Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns. Thank you!

@retiolus We apologize for any frustration you may be experiencing. We strive to provide the best support we can to our community, and we’re sorry to hear that we have not been able to assist you with your issue.

Regarding uploading GoPro photo tracks, our Mapilio Uploader tool is designed to support a wide range of file formats, including GPX files generated by GoPro cameras. However, if you’re experiencing any issues with uploading your tracks, we would be happy to help troubleshoot the issue with you. Can you provide more details about the problem you’re encountering?

Additionally, we try our best to respond to all inquiries on our community forum in a timely manner, but please note that our team is small and may not always be able to respond immediately. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

@retiolus

Hi, is this still the position on open source software? It doesn’t look like the uploaded imagery has increased much, looking at the league tables.

Thanks,

Chris

Dear @chris_debian

We (together) have accomplished remarkable success by gathering over 4 million points and images from 42 different countries. The project has been an incredible journey, and we are thrilled with the contributions we’ve received so far.

While it may seem that the uploaded imagery hasn’t increased significantly when looking at the league tables, it’s important to remember that the numbers may not always reflect the full picture. The quality and impact of the data collected are equally crucial, and our focus has been on ensuring the accuracy and usefulness of the information we’ve gathered.

Our PR (Pull Requests) are still open on OSM Github, and we’re eagerly working on refining the data and incorporating valuable feedback from the community. We are committed to making sure our dataset is of the highest standard before it gets published on osm.org, which is expected to happen mid-August.

Thank you for being a part of our journey, and we look forward to sharing more updates as we progress!

Thank you for replying.

Chris

The merge is taken, Being tested under staging branch.
